House Sitting in Hawke's Bay

House minding and pet sitting in Hawkes Bay, New Zealand

Wine. Hawkes Bay is blessed with everything a winemaker could want, particularly if you're making reds. Therefore, it is also blessed with everything food and wine lovers could desire, and is also popular for bicycle touring (and wine-tasting).

And there's more - trout fishing, hot pools, kayaking, ballooning, and wine tasting (or did we already mention that?) Love the Art Deco at Napier, the Gannets at Cape Kidnappers, the farmer's markets at Hastings and the wineries, everywhere. The National Aquarium is amazing, as are the beautiful beaches along the coast.

Bring your bike, and a nice cheese platter - and house sit in Hawkes Bay.

The three major cities of Hawke’s Bay are Napier, Hastings and Wairoa. Napier and Hastings are known internationally for the "Snapshot" of Art Deco architecture on display, due to the fact that both towns were destroyed by an earthquake in the 1930's, and were both rebuilt within a couple of years.

Wairoa, on the other hand is famous for its stunning coastlines. Bird lovers can visit the bird sanctuary in Cape Kidnappers famous for it's Gannet colony.

For the wine experience, there are over 80 wineries, mostly within a 20 kilometre radius encompassing Hastings and Napier. Some other places you should checkout are Clive, Elsthorpe, Puketapy, Dannevirke and Tikokino. There are also the beautiful lakes Tutira and Waikaremoana; well worth a visit.

Trout fishing, Kayaking and lying on a beautiful beach are also on the menu in Hawkes Bay - it's really about what you're in the mood for.

Worth visiting just for the photo opportunity, this hill in Hawkes Bay boasts the longest place name in the English speaking world. A translation of the name from Maori is "The summit where Tamatea, the man with the big knees, the climber of mountains, the land-swallower who travelled about, played his nose flute to his loved one".

House sitting in Hawkes Bay is a great way to secure a launching place from which to explore this fabulous region. Bring your nose flute, spend some time here and get past the cliches - you'll love every minute.

*FREE: House sitting is usually free, for both sitter and house owner, although this is completely up to the individuals. There are usually some costs that need to be covered by either the sitter or the house owner e.g. electricity, phone usage, vet fees etc. How these costs are handled needs to be agreed before the sit begins. House sitters pay a single annual membership fee, while house owners pay nothing to advertise their house or to contact sitters.
