Port Chalmers

We are looking for someone to live-in and look after our 8yr old lab / collie cross and a cat for 2 weeks over Christmas. Our building is an old Victorian 3 storey property in Port Chalmers with shops at street level and flats above. It is built into the hill, so the first storey is level with the ground at the back of the building where there is a flat functional garden with lawn, raised beds and a fish pond. It is good for the dog and a nice place to sit outside.
We live in two flats over two floors with a roofed deck at the upper level. Next door we have a tenant, Gordon. He is a retired designer/artist, who is quiet and sociable and has a old Jack Russel terrier. There is off-street parking up the drive.
The 'job' is more about dog sitting and walking than house minding. We work from home so the animals are used to having someone around.
8yr old Koru is a biggish dog at 37kgs and loves to run (and swim). He walks reasonably well on lead and responds well to his name, but reacts badly to motor bikes and chases cats. We walk him twice a day - a short walk in the morning to the local playing field and another walk around 4-5 o'clock - say 30mins to an hour .......
Bluey the cat is a large indulged fellow, but nervous and wary of strangers so needs gentle handling/encouragement while he adjusts to a new people. After he has broken you in he will be all over you, purring and pawing, and demanding food.
Port Chalmers is a lovely village with all services within walking distance and has some beautiful walks and beaches.
We are departing on the afternoon of Tuesday 17 December 2024 and Ideally would like someone the day before. We return on Tuesday 31 December, but you could stay longer, if you wish, as the downstairs area is almost self-contained.
