My name is Ellis, born in The Netherlands, studied Art History in Amsterdam and currently working as a certified Casemanager at an Occupational Health Service Company in the Netherlands.

favoriteWhy I love house sitting

House sitting gives me the opportunity to integrate more like a local into the community. During my past travels to New Zeland, I have hardly visited any so called ‘Highlights’. I chose to stay for a few days in less known or smaller places, to experience the ‘real Kiwi’ way of life.

I was born and raised in the Netherlands, but Aotearoa feels like my second home country.

My first visit to New Zealand was in 2006, the second in 2019 and the last in 2023.
But as a child I was already curious about New Zealand and its culture. Every year around Christmas a calender and some other gifts arrived by Air Mail at my parents house. Sent by my aunt who emigrated to New Zealand in the 1950s. I still remember the - to me - strange ‘Christmas tree’ on those calenders. Now I know ... Nowadays, I have relatives living in Wellington, Palmerston, Henderson (Auckland) and Blenheim, where my cousin owns a vineyard.

Currently, I have no pets. Fleury, a beautiful British shorthair, passed away a few years ago. However, for nearly forty years, I have been living with one or more cats in my household. I also get along with dogs, but have never owned a dog myself.

Pet care

Have no specific sitting experience. I have had the company for more than 40 years of my own cats. Though I never had a dog of my own, in the past I took care of several dogs of friends, during their vacations.

Dear homeowner, as I am still employed and my employer allows me to take some time off for maximum two months, I have no detailed plan yet. My preference for accepting sits would be starting at the beginning of February until the end of April 2027. Or starting at the beginning of November 2027.
