A year ago, I spent several months house-sitting in Auckland, where I looked after a golden retriever named Lily. We quickly became inseparable — daily walks, muddy adventures, and cozy evenings together. When I moved on, I had to leave her a piece of my clothing so she could still “smell” me around. That’s how deep our bond was!

I’ve shared my life with cats for as long as I can remember (though sadly, none in NZ at the moment), so looking after someone else’s pets feels like a lovely way to fill that paw-shaped gap in my heart.
