Young, trusty couple with big heart for animals
27, Festival Coordinator
We are Felicia and Gunnar - a couple in our late 20s early 30s living and traveling in NZ. Gunnar is from Berlin, Germany and Felicia is from California, USA. We met in Washington, DC. We are both avid nature lovers and enjoy being around animals! We love to go camping, hiking, biking, and canoeing. We arrived to NZ in March and are looking forward to learning more about NZ's culture, history and political systems, in addition to appreciating the gorgeous landscape. Felicia was trained as a ballet dancer but does more yoga and gardening these days. Gunnar loves football (soccer) and road biking. We enjoy sharing meals with people, playing games, going to community events, and traveling! We have our own vehicle here in NZ, are non-smokers, and are mostly vegetarian.
Gunnar is currently working with his job in Germany, remotely. He works for a government institute evaluating German foreign aid and has a background in development economics. Felicia studied global environmental policy and has recently worked as a researcher for the World Wildlife Fund as well as served as the Film Festival Coordinator for a large environmental film festival California. Both of us have seen quite a bit of the world already as we studied and lived (before we met) in Costa Rica and Guatemala (Felicia) and Argentina, Brazil, Portugal, USA (Gunnar). Those experiences help us to adapt quickly to new places and quickly make new furry and non-furry friends.
Felicia grew up with chickens, rabbits, ducks, rescue dogs, and rescue cats on a beautiful piece of property with a large garden and fruit forest in Northern California. Gunnar, being from Berlin, only had guinea pigs growing up, but has since grown to adore pets as he lived abroad with dogs.
--- Why we want to house sit ---
Gunnar and I are excited about house sitting for several reasons: 1) We love animals and taking care of them - they really do become family 2) Getting a taste of a locals life. We find that being able to integrate ourselves in the setting of a local's home and create a routine in a home/community based setting can give a more authentic experience to the place we are traveling which is something we are always looking for (as we both are interested in, and studied, international/cultural topics); 3) Although Gunnar and I have been together for over 2 years, we have never lived in a home together outside of vacations and some work exchanges. House sitting provides not only a place that feels like a home, but having animals make it even homier; something we yearn to share together sooner than later. We appreciate the opportunity to 'live' together in these homes and find joy and growth in the everyday tasks of homemaking.
--- Our Experience ---
Although we are new to this website, Felicia has house sat for many individuals, couples, and families over the years (~12 years), including bosses, colleagues, friends, and friends of friends. Since we have been together, we've house sat for many people we know and have found it to be a wonderful experience! Recently, we house sat two houses in Whanganui area through trustedhousesitters and had a great experience.
We are accustomed to balancing our daily schedule with the needs of the pets and the household (i.e. planning out when to water/garden, take the dogs on walks or runs, cleaning the house, taking out the chickens/putting them away, giving medicine to the pets, etc.). We've cared for dogs, cats, chickens, rabbits, and a pair of parrots and we're looking forward to bonding with and taking care of many more furry (and sometimes not-so-furry) friends!
We are new to kiwi-housesitters but have been using trustedhousesitters.com and have good reviews on there. Please contact us for a link to our profile.
