Tanya & Jared

We are a non smoking international family.

Tanya is a kiwi, born and bred in Auckland and has travelled the world. Of recent years she has been splitting her time between Queenstown, Takaka, Auckland and Alaska where she manages a remote off grid 8 cabin bed & breakfast in McCarthy.
Jared, is originally from Minnesota but has been living between McCarthy and Anchorage, Alaska for the past 18 years. Before that, he received his degree from the University of Montana. He is a wilderness guide for half of the year in McCarthy where he is part owner of Kennicott Wilderness Guides. For the rest of the year he is either a safety guide for BBC and National Geographic shows or works as a carpenter, a real HANDY man!
In 2016 we welcomed our first son Ari into this big wide world, he sure is a delight. Ari loves to ride his bicycle, ski and go sledding whenever he can! A real outdoors boy who loves to help out whenever he can!
2019 came along with our second son Finnley! What a comedian he has been right from the start! He is so smart, we are sure he will be an engineer or architect when he grows up!

We currently split our time between our own remote off the grid log cabin in McCarthy, Alaska and a home that we rent in the main city of Anchorage. This is now where we spend the school year!

We like spending time at home, and all love the outdoors. Skiing, sledding, Hiking, running, mountain biking, climbing, road riding, kayaking and pack rafting in mother nature makes us feel alive.

We love animals and have both grown up with all sorts of pet animals including all farm animals. Unfortunately splitting our time between NZ and Alaska is preventing us from having our own pets but as a substitute we often look after friends dogs for long periods of time.

We have looked after one other family’s home in Takaka for 2 months through this website in 2019. We can also provide you with personal references from people whom we have looked after their houses, businesses, gardens and animals previously.
