The Canterbury region is situated in the South Island of New Zealand.  This region is also known as The Canterbury Plains and  contains the city, Christchurch. Geographically, the land is significant because the River Conway flows through it and has a confluence with another important river, the River Waitaki. The two important cities in the Canterbury region are Christchurch and Timaru. The city is also known as the Garden City because of the large number of beautiful gardens here. Timaru is a much smaller city, which contains Caroline Bay, popular attraction.
