We live on a 13-acre lifestyle block approx 2 km to the Waikanae town and railway station (20minutes walking). Our property runs along the banks of the Waikanae River and there is easy access to a shallow swimming hole - noting this river is public property.
You are welcome to wander the property providing you stick to the rule of closing the gate when you enter a paddock as we run sheep. There will potentially be road construction happening on the property during our absence and we will talk further about that with the successful House sitter.
There is lots of parking space by the house however there is no garage or covered area for your vehicle.
We have 6 chickens that have a caged coup and run. However, we allow the chickens to free range from approx. 2 pm each day when the eggs can be collected then ensure the chickens are back in their coup and the gates are closed before it is dark. The feeder needs to be checked to ensure adequate food is available and you are welcome to enjoy the eggs.
We have a 5-year-old heading dog ‘Pixie’, who is semi-domesticated. She is allowed inside the house in the evening but must stay on her bed and is not permitted throughout the house, on the furniture, or in the kitchen. Pixie sleeps in her kennel at night and is fed 1x per day, usually around 5pm in winter and she has a raw egg every morning. We do give her treats such as leftovers but no cooked bone or sweet food.
Pixie is very active and loves to play ball, go to the beach, and have lots of dedicated attention. Pixie must be watched around the chickens as she likes to herd them and has on one occasion attacked a chicken.
Pixie must be on a lead if walking through the paddocks and when out of the property.
We have 4 Bee hives though there is nothing required by you other than to avoid the Bees although over winter you are unlikely to see many!
It would be appreciated if you could water the potted plants at least once while we are away and the vegetable garden including the passion fruit vines, subject to rainfall levels.
You are welcome to have visitors, however we prefer no overnight stays.
