Safe house!
There is nothing more secure than having people at home while you're away. Get a house sitter.

My wife, Robyn, and I, have used Kiwi House Sitters in the past to find sitters for our own property. Now, I want the opportunity to pet=sit in places in NZ which I have little experience of, while Robyn spends a number of months overseas learning a new language.
As our daughter grew up, we had a number of pets, pretty much in sequence. There were two guinea-pigs, which hid most of the time. There was Rosie the Rabbit, who got behind the settee and chewed most of our hi-fi and TV cables. There was a flock of chickens, ranging in size from Sydney Silkies (not very bright) to Orpie the Blue Orpington who happily sat on our laps -anyone's lap! Finally, there was Stella the mini-schnauzer, who only died a few weeks ago and who we miss greatly. Currently we are in Christchurch for one month, caring for our daughter's cat - Florence - while she and her husband are on a European tour.
I don't smoke. I drink alcohol only in moderation, I am a tidy person and domestically 'proven'. (I made plum chutney and plum sauce today. Plus I can do occasional 'fix-it' jobs around the house and garden.) My major recreational activity is gentle ('smell the roses") e-biking. I look forward to quietly exploring cycle trails in the North Island - where I have spent very little time.
