Reliable Auckland-based animal-lover

35, Academic

Looking for long-term housesits in central Auckland from 27 September 2024.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Relax while you are away and return to happy pets and a spotless home. I adore animals and have more than 7 years of pet/housesitting and gardening experience in Australia and New Zealand.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I am a home owner myself and used to have pets of my own, so I totally understand how important it is to feel complete confidence and trust in the person to whom you are entrusting the care of your precious furry family members and home.

So, here is what you can expect from me:
* Prompt and easy communication.
* Meeting you and your pets face-to-face or online prior to the sit to get to know each other better and discuss your needs and expectations.
* Strict and honest following your instructions, including continuing any training or boundaries you have in place.
* Sending you regular updates with photos & videos.
* Being eco-conscious with cleaning, waste, composting, conserving water and energy. I treat people's homes with the utmost respect and consideration, using drink coasters to protect furniture, leaving shoes outside, etc., just like I would in my own home. I usually bring my own linen, towels, toiletries and food items.
* Keeping an activity log and a debrief upon your return.
* Leaving the home and garden well maintained and clean, pets healthy and happy, and a nice 'welcome back home' surprise for you.
* Please, note that I don't usually go out much in the evenings and spend as much time at home with pets as required by the homeowner. While on a house sit, I would generally be around the home in the mornings and evenings, reading, cooking, playing and exercising with your pets and doing some work on my laptop.

In the last 7 years I have completed 50+ housesits (city apartments, family homes, executive residences, farm homesteads, beach houses, and off-grid homes) ranging from 1 night to 6 months.
Previous housesits were booked through a similar Australian website (please see references from house owners below):
* June 2019 to present - many, many repeat housesits. I have returned to the majority of my house-sits so far (and would have returned to more if the dates had worked)! One home I have returned to 15 times!
* May-June 2019, Australia/Sydney, Marrickville NSW, Burmese cat (repeated housesit)
* March-April 2019, Australia/Sydney, Maroubra NSW, 2 cats
* February 2019, Australia/Sydney, Five Dock NSW, 14 y.o. Jack Russel terrier with separation anxiety (required medication)
* January 2019 (+March, June 2019), Australia/Sydney, Stanmore NSW, 10 y.o. Maine Coon (required oral medication)
* December 2018/January 2019, Australia/Sydney, Newtown NSW, 2 Burmese cats
* December 2018, New Zealand/Auckland, 4 months old British Blue kitten
* December 2018, Australia/Sydney, Macquarie Park NSW, 6 y.o. cat
* November 2018, Australia/Sydney, Northbridge NSW, 16 y.o. cat with special diet
* October 2018, Australia/Sydney, Newtown NSW, cat
* September 2018, Australia/Sydney, Drummoyne NSW, apartment and plants
* August 2018, Australia/Sydney, Little Bay NSW, 2 cats
* June-July 2018, Australia/Sydney, Marrickville NSW, Burmese cat
* May-June 2018, Australia/Sydney, Mosman NSW, Poodle x Cavalier x Maltese puppy
* May 2018, Australia/Sydney, Enmore NSW, Siamese cat, recovering from illness
* May 2018, Australia/Sydney, Marrickville NSW, 2 cats, one of which was 17y.o. and required special care
* April 2018, Australia/Sydney, Marrickville NSW, Birman cat
* April 2018, Australia/Sydney, Cammeray NSW, Burmese cat and veggie garden
* February-March 2018, Australia/Sydney, McMahons Point NSW, apartment and plants
* February 2018, Australia/Sydney, Collaroy Beach NSW, Burmese cat
* January 2018, Australia/Sydney, Brookvale NSW, 2 Bichon Frise dogs, cat, 5 fish, large garden

Note: Most of the abovementioned housesits became repeated ones when homeowners travel so they contact me directly and don't leave separate reviews.

ABOUT ME
I am respectful, responsible, honest, reliable, energetic, and friendly person with a positive outlook on life.

* Experienced looking after cats (old and kittens), little and big dogs (old and puppies), rabbits, fish, birds, horses, chickens, and ducks.
* I have administered medication and treatment to a number of animals as part of the care.
* I am good at giving shy animals space and letting them come to me as well as managing big, boisterous dogs.
* Extremely clean, neat, and tidy.
* Fit, active, healthy and pragmatic optimist who loves exercising so your dog will definitely be walked at least twice a day.
* Non-smoker and non-drinker.

* Police check, first aid and working with children certificates available upon request.

I grew up around animals and love taking care of them. In fact, I grew up in a house that was practically a menagerie! My experience includes: dogs (puppies to oldies, small through to big breeds), various breeds of cats from kittens to very old, turtles, fish, hamsters, guinea pigs, birds (budgerigars, chooks, geese), and horses. I am the sort of person who stops to pat dogs when going for a walk. Also, I am currently undertaking horse training course and will be a certified coach soon.

I enjoy the balanced lifestyle, nature, travelling, coastal walks, sunshine and of course spending time with animals. I like being outdoors, so would love to walk your dog as often as required. I'm also a bookworm, so also enjoy staying inside reading books and learning languages.

Ex-management consultant, I am now working as a university lecturer and freelance marketing consultant (part-time and mostly from home) to enjoy the slower lifestyle and have time to "stop and smell the roses". I am passionate about using the power of business to influence positive environmental and social change. The last few years I have worked in the Non-For-Profit and Higher Education sectors. I have volunteered for many non-for-profit organisations including Room-to-Read, Welcome Dinner Project, and the UN.

WHY I HOUSESIT
I'm a strong believer of an economy of trust (or 'shared economy'). I used to host couchsurfers as a way of 'paying it forward' and was a guest, helper, house and pet sitter myself many times.

As s housesitter, I find it an amazing and a very rewarding adventure that helps me be around animals, explore new suburbs/cities/countries, and make new friends around the world. I am a homeowner in Sydney but have recently moved to Auckland for work, so would like to explore this city through housesitting.

If you have managed to survive to this point, I sincerely thank you for your interest in my profile! Hopefully, you have gained some insight into my personality and experience.

Please feel welcome to contact me directly with any queries and I hope to sit for you soon.

Warm regards,
Yara

Awesome first time experience with kiwi house sitters for us & our fur babies. Yara was great at communication from the onset and kept us updated with pics on our cats activities. The place was nice and tidy on our return :) Would definitely recommend to others (have already!) Thanks Yara Love the tulips!

ZEE (St Mary's Bay , Apr 2024 - 5 nights)
Thanks so much Zee - it was an absolute pleasure to look after your beautiful cats! And extra special to have been your first kiwi housesitter :)
Yara was an excellent sitter, she sent me pics of the cat and updates on how she was doing, she was no trouble at all, in fact she even washed all the linen and re-made the bed before leaving, meaning I could crash straightaway when I got home (hello jetlag!). My cat can be a bit standoffish as she gets old, but I could see from the pics that she was trying to get some snuggles from Yara after not long :) Probably the best treat was that Yara left me a little box of choccies for when I got ... Yara did an great job of house sitting and looking after my two cats whilst i was away for almost 2 months. She kept me updated and sent me photos so I could enjoy my holiday without worrying. LANA (Maroubra NSW, Apr 2019 - 1 month 3 weeks) From Aussie House Sitters
Yara was an excellent pet and house sitter. She did an excellent job looking after our elderly dog who has special needs and requires twice daily medication. She cared for our house and plants as if they were her own. She left the house clean and tidy at the end of her stay. Yara was very diligent in communication sending us a questionnaire to complete before her stay so she had all the necessary information and sending us updates of our dog while we were away. I would definitely rebook Yara ... MORE

CATHERINE (Five Dock NSW, Mar 2019 - 1 week 6 days) From Aussie House Sitters
Yara was an exceptional house/cat sitter! We asked her to look after our two-bedroom apartment, and our cats, for a period of about 5 weeks, and both were in such good hands. Yara was an excellent communicator and very trustworthy. We had an initial meeting with her in the lead up to our holiday and we appreciated her professionalism and her friendliness. Yara provides a very useful handover template which you can fill in with various important details about your home and how it functions. ... MORE

DALIA (Newtown NSW, Dec 2018 - 1 month 1 week) From Aussie House Sitters
Yara was fantastic! She looked after our kitty and took care of our home whilst we were overseas. She kept me updated and sent me photos of my fur baby and he looked very happy! She is very responsible and trustworthy. We highly recommend her as a house-sitter and pet sitter!

ERIN (Macquarie Park NSW, Dec 2018 - 1 week) From Aussie House Sitters
Yara was an excellent house and cat sitter. My elderly and very shy cat Sally was happy and healthy on my return. I received regular photos and updates whilst away which stopped me from fretting! She dealt wonderfully with a problem on arrival when she found a bird had got in and made a terrible mess. I came back to a sparkling tidy unit and even a welcome home treat. Highly recommend this sitter.

CARMEL (Northbridge NSW, Oct 2018) From Aussie House Sitters
Yara was a beautiful person and excellent house sitter. From the very start she was a fantastic communicator and this continued throughout her house it. She looked after the house and it was spotlessly clean when I came home from my trip with welcoming flowers and starter pack - very generous. The best review comes from my cat DeeDee who was plump, healthy and content on my return. I think she was thoroughly spoilt which gave me peace of mind. I received regular pictures during my travels ... MORE

KAYE (Newtown NSW, Oct 2018) From Aussie House Sitters
Yara has looked after our house and plants on numerous occasions over the past 4 years and is the perfect housesitter. This has included longer term (3 months) and shorter ones of 2-3 weeks. Yara is very reliable, honest, considerate and respectful, around the home most of the time, and the house is always immaculate after she leaves. The neighbors also really liked Yara, which is very important. We would not hesitate to have Yara housesit for us any time that we would be away.

OLENA (Drummoyne NSW, Sep 2018 - 2 weeks 2 days) From Aussie House Sitters
No rating Yara was such a delight! She stayed at our house for just over a month while we were travelling overseas. I couldn't have wished for a better person to look after our pussycat and our house. Throughout her stay, Yara sent us photos and updates on life back in our home. I have to admit, our cat is not the easiest to get along with but, on the second day, Yara sent a photo of Juno (our cat) sleeping on our lap... she won her heart! and so did ours : ) I felt relaxed throughout our holiday ... MANA (Marrickville NSW, Jun 2018) From Aussie House Sitters
No rating Yara provided a 3.5 week house sit for us and looked after our dog. She provided frequent updates about Jay and was responsive to communication. Yara looked after our house and left it in immaculate condition (I don't ever think its been this clean). She also accommodated our needs by visiting and taking our dog for a walk with us before the house sit. We strongly recommend Yara as an animal lover who is a reliable, honest and trustworthy house sitter.
EMMA & ADAM (Mosman NSW, May 2018 - 3 weeks) From Aussie House Sitters
No rating Yara is an excellent housesitter, personable and professional and I was very happy to leave my cat in her care. Everything was well looked after and the cat was contented when I got home, which is always a good sign. I can highly recommend her.
LINDA (Enmore NSW, May 2018 - 2 days) From Aussie House Sitters
No rating Yara did an excellent job of house sitting and looking after my two cats. She was friendly and reliable and went out of her way to meet with me before I went away. Yara left my unit very clean and tidy and most importantly the cats were happy and well looked after.
REBECCA (Marrickville NSW, May 2018 - 1 week) From Aussie House Sitters
No rating Yara looked after my apartment in McMahons Point for almost two months while I was travelling overseas. Although I don't have pets, I needed someone to be at home for security reasons, keep it clean and tidy, take care of plants and collect mail. Yara undertook all responsibilities just perfectly and sent me regular updates on how everything is going back at home. When I came back, plants were thriving, apartment was sparkling clean, nothing was broken etc. I felt relieved that I can trust ... MORE
ROBERTA (McMahons Point NSW, May 2018) From Aussie House Sitters
No rating Yara was an absolute delight to deal with and I would recommend her to anyone who is looking for a house sitter, especially if you have pets. From the first contact to coming home, Yara was reliable and did a fantastic job. My flat was immaculate and my cat was very relaxed and happy when I got home. Yara is obviously a genuine animal lover. She's also cat sat for my Mum and now we've booked her in for May next year.
CLAIRE (Marrickville NSW, Apr 2018) From Aussie House Sitters
No rating We were very happy to have Yara stay at our home in Cammeray and look after our beloved Burmese. Yara is super polite and efficient and was a pleasure to deal with. When we came home the place looked just as we'd left it, the garden was well watered and our cat was very content, having had a wonderful playmate staying with her all week. We would happily have Yara back again and highly recommend her.
ROBYN (Cammeray NSW, Apr 2018) From Aussie House Sitters
No rating We had Yara housesit our place for 2 weeks in February 2018. We could not be more impressed with Yara. She left our place in better condition than when we left. She took great care of our Cat giving regular updates about how he was going sending many pics. I would not hesitate in having Yara sit again and would recommend her to anyone else. CRAIG (Collaroy Beach NSW, Feb 2018) From Aussie House Sitters
No rating Yara was easily the best housesitter we've had.. and we've had a lot! She adored our dogs and cat and cared for them as if they were her own. As we were missing our spoilt fur babies to bits, she sent us daily updates complete with pictures which made our hearts melt! She walked our pups several times a day and made sure they were happy and well fed/watered. She also looked after my garden, which consists of over 150 pot plants, lots of which needed hand watering. Not an easy job! ... MORE
